In order to support traditional artisans and craftsmen, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, September 17, introduced the Pradhan Mantri Vishwakarma initiative at the India International Convention and Expo Centre in the National Capital.
The Modi administration launched the programme with a budget of $13,000 crores with the goal of preserving long-standing customs and culture. The government of India is committed to safeguarding the nation’s rich cultural legacy and promoting indigenous arts, crafts, and goods as it enters the Amrit Kaal.
The traditional craftspeople will be registered on the PM Vishwakarma portal as part of the Pradhan Mantri Vishakarma scheme through biometric verification. An ID card and a PM Vishwakarma certificate will be given to them.
A toolkit reward of Rs. 15,000 will also be given to the artisans in addition to basic and advanced skill training. Without requiring any security, they would receive free credit support up to one lakh rupees. Credit support for a second trance of Rs. 2 lakh would be offered at a low interest rate of 5%.
The artisans will be compensated for marketing assistance and online sales. The Modi administration seeks to promote the Guru-Shishya parampara of passing down traditional skills through the PM Vishwakarma scheme.
To expand the availability and calibre of Vishwakarma products and integrate them into local and international value chains is one of the main goals of the Central programme, which is fully supported.
