These days, during Ganesh Utsav in entire Vidarbha including Nagpur, Maharashtra, the prices of flowers in the flower market have increased by 250 to 300 percent. Mahalakshmi festival starts in Maharashtra during the Ganesh festival itself. Therefore, the price of flower garland worn by Mahalakshmi has increased from Rs 2500 to Rs 3500. You can estimate the increase in the prices of flowers from the fact that before Ganesh Utsav, the flowers which were being sold at Rs 70 to 80 per kg, are today being sold in bulk at Rs 300 to 600.
Earlier, the garland offered to Gods and Goddesses was available for 200 to 300 rupees. Today the same garland is available for Rs 2500 to Rs 3000. Not only this, apart from flower garlands, the prices of flowers are also skyrocketing. Flower sellers say that flowers have become expensive by 250 percent to 300 percent. He says that the flower crop was damaged due to rain. For the first time, the new crop has reached the flower market from the farm. Flower sellers said that along with Ganesh Utsav, Mahalakshmi Puja is also being held, hence the price of flowers has increased significantly.
The bunch of 20 roses which was earlier being sold for Rs 150 to 200, is now being sold for Rs 600. Gerbera is currently priced at Rs 70 per piece which was earlier sold for Rs 20 to Rs 25. Sevanti flower used to be sold at Rs 120 per kg, which is now being sold at Rs 300 per kg. Whereas rose flowers used to be sold at Rs 100 per kg, now they are being sold at Rs 500 to 600 per kg. Apart from this, marigold flowers used to be sold at Rs 50 to Rs 60 per kg, which are now available at Rs 200 per kg.
