It has been a depressing start for Manchester United this season despite all aspirations and a feeling of fresh vigor. During Manchester United’s first match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, goalkeeper Andre Onana was adjudged to have made a mistake. After falling to the German team 4-3, the Red Devils’ Champions League campaign got off to a terrible start. After Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane’s strike miraculously hit the back of the goal, Onana, who joined on a £47.2 million transfer from Inter Milan this summer, made a costly blunder. It has just come to light that the Manchester United squad was indignant with the organization’s administration for not keeping David De Gea, their previous goalie, for this season.
According to a SunSport article, the Manchester United team was upset when De Gea was let go earlier this summer after spending 12 years at Old Trafford. Media sources claim that a portion of the Manchester United team is still not entirely pleased with how the Spanish goalkeeper was handled.
De Gea departed Manchester United this summer after being unable to come to terms on a new deal. After moving from Atletico Madrid to Manchester United in 2011, the 32-year-old made 545 appearances for the team.
Over the course of his stellar career at Manchester United, De Gea amassed five significant victories, including the Premier League and the Europa League. He has the most clean sheets in the league last season, earning him the Golden Glove award. De Gea is currently playing without a club.
Andre Onana, a Cameroonian international, was finalized by Manchester United as David De Gea’s successor during the summer transfer window. Onana committed to Manchester United for five years with a one-year extension option.
Onana, though, had a bumpy beginning to his Manchester United career. Onana received harsh criticism for using bad judgment against Lens in a preseason friendly. Onana fouled Austrian attacker Sasa Kalajdzic on his Premier League debut against Wolves. Wolves’ first requests for a penalty were originally denied by match official Simon Hooper. Michael Salisbury, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), also looked for a penalty kick, but he lacked sufficient proof to overrule Hooper’s first judgment.
Onana’s situation deteriorated as he did not seem particularly promising during the Champions League match against Bayern Munich. The 27-year-old admitted that he was to blame for his team’s defeat after the match against the Bavarian powerhouse.
“I believe that we began off pretty well, so it’s impossible to lose this manner. My error caused us to lose control of the game. Because I let the team down, it’s a challenging scenario for me specifically. The squad, though, was excellent; I believe I was the reason they lost this match. We just need to proceed. As reported by the news agency Reuters, Onana said to TNT Sports, “This is the life of the goalie, and if we didn’t win today, it was because of me.
For the first time since 1989–90, Manchester United has suffered three losses in its first five Premier League games. This weekend in the Premier League, Erik ten Hag’s team will play host to Burnley.
