In Maharashtra’s Thane district, a security guard was detained after being accused of beating an 82-year-old widow and robbing her of jewelry worth Rs. 3.2 lakh, according to police.
According to an official, Rajendra Bahadur Kumwar (42), a resident of Nepal who was involved in the incident at a housing society in Bhayandar town on September 19, was detained by police after receiving a tip.
Around 10 p.m. on Tuesday, an unknown individual broke into the old woman’s home while she was home alone and assaulted her before fleeing with jewelry worth Rs. 3.2 lakh, according to deputy zone I police commissioner Jayant Bajbale.
According to him, the Navghar police started an investigation after filing a charge under section 394 of the Indian Penal Code (causing harm willingly while committing robbery).
The security guard has not reported to work since the day of the incident, according to analysis of local CCTV video and interviews with locals, the official added.
In addition to apprehending him in the Salasar neighborhood after receiving information about his location, the police also seized stolen goods from him, he said.
