Virat Kohli, a former captain of India, continued his incredible performance in the 2023 ICC World Cup on Thursday, smashing a stunning hundred as Rohit Sharma’s Team India thrashed Bangladesh in Pune. Kohli’s magnificent innings of 103* off 97 balls ensured that India maintained their spotless record in the One Day International (ODI) World Cup. At the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rohit and Co. defeated Bangladesh, who was without Shakib Al Hasan, by seven wickets thanks to Kohli’s 78th international century.
When Bangladesh batted first in ODI World Cup match number 17, Tanzid Hasan (51) and Litton Das (66) added 93 runs for the first wicket, giving Bangladesh their best-ever ICC tournament start. However, Bangladesh was only able to score 256-8 in 50 overs because to Ravindra Jadeja’s golden arm and Jasprit Bumrah’s quick bowling skills. Though Jadeja was the early favorite to earn Player of the Match, Kohli’s match-winning century eclipsed the seasoned all-rounder.
Batter-wicketkeeper KL Rahul made a brief appearance to assist Kohli in scoring his 48th ODI century as India smashed Bangladesh to take the lead in the World Cup points standings. After receiving the Player of the Match award, Kohli spoke with well-known commentator Mark Nicholas and emphasized that he was not the only seasoned player in the current lineup to have won the ODI World Cup.
Ashwin’s class act thanks to Kohli
You’ve won the World Cup previously, of course. Before Kohli singled out experienced all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin, Nicholas added, “So you’re the only man in the dressing room who understands what it’s like. From 2011, Ash (Ashwin) and I were the only two. We just want to enjoy it to the fullest because playing at home and in front of so many people is a great sensation, Kohli said.
Numerous records for Kohli
Pune is the sixth location where run-machine Kohli, 34, has scored 500+ runs in an ODI match. At the ODI World Cup, when Kohli scored his maiden century during a run chase, Sachin Tendulkar’s previous record was broken. In international cricket, Kohli has already scored 26,000 runs at the quickest pace. In 567 innings, Kohli scored more than 26 000 runs. In 601 innings, his hero Tendulkar amassed 26 000 runs in international competition. Batting master Kohli has 48 centuries to his credit and needs one more to tie Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI hundreds.
