Australia defeated South Africa by three wickets at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 16, Thursday, setting the date of the final against India. India and Australia will square off in the top match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday (November 19). It will be a rematch of the 2003 World Cup final. It’s interesting to note that the five-match T20I series between the two sides will resume on November 23.
Michael Vaughan, a former cricket player for England, has voiced his discontent with the series’ schedule, saying it should not have been so soon to the World Cup final. He believes that the players who win the World Cup need to get a few weeks off. The Australian T20I squad has been revealed, and six players who are part of the World Cup squad—David Warner, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, Josh Inglis, and Sean Abbott—have been selected for the series that starts on November 23.
Regarding India, rumors have it that the majority of the World Cup players would not be participating in the Twenty20 International series, despite the fact that Suryakumar Yadav is most likely to be selected as the team’s captain. The team, nevertheless, has not yet been formally revealed. Returning to Vaughan, he described the series’ schedule as “overkill” and “greedy.”
“I don’t think it’s right that the two winners will play a T20 series against each other four days later. Why can’t we give players a moment’s rest following a world cup, or give the winner a few weeks to properly celebrate?” “It’s overkill and pure greed,” Vaughan said in his tweet.
