Late on Saturday night, army forces opened fire on what they believed to be a Pakistani drone close to the Line of Control (LoC) in the Jammu and Kashmir region of Rajouri. According to PTI, which cited officials, the drone briefly lingered above Indian territory before heading back to Pakistan.
Nothing unusual was discovered on the ground in the Keri sector, even after thoroughly examining the region. Authorities reaffirmed their worries that anti-national groups are using drones to bring drugs and weapons into Indian territory. Still, they also gave the assurance that security personnel were ready to stop any such attempts.
On the intervening nights of Saturday and Sunday, a flying object with a blinking light was also seen in the sky close to the Allahpir area of the Poonch district. According to the officials, police and security personnel checked the area but found nothing on the ground.
The Border Security Forces (BSF) found a China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone in a harvested field near the village of Havelian in the Amritsar region of Punjab.
According to information from the BSF intelligence wing about the presence of a drone in the border area of district Amritsar, BSF troops immediately began a thorough search operation in the suspected area on May 12, 2024, according to the BSF PUNJAB FRONTIER.
The army stated, “During the search operation at about 5:35 pm, the troops successfully recovered 01 drones in a harvested field in Havelian, District Amritsar.”
“The recovered drone is identified as China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic,” they stated.
“Reliable input from the BSF intelligence wing and timely action of BSF troops once again proved their commitment to plug the entry of illicit drones from across the border,” the Border Security Force stated.
This recovery is the second of its kind in as many days; the first one included a drone that was suspected of carrying a package of heroin.
According to a statement from the BSF, the incident happened at night on May 11 when security personnel saw a drone moving in the Amritsar border area. After following the drone’s path, the soldiers marked off the suspected dropping zone.
The BSF Public Relations Officer stated, “At approximately 11:40 pm, BSF troops successfully recovered 1 small drone along with 1 packet of suspected heroin ahead of a border security fence in a farming field in village Havelian in district Amritsar.”
The retrieved package weighed around 498 grammes and had yellow adhesive tape wrapped around it. A nylon loop and a torch were also discovered attached to the package. The PRO continued that the quadcopter (Model: DJI Mavic 3 Classic, manufactured in China) that was recovered is a drone.
