Rajya Sabha MP for the Aadmi Party, Swati Maliwal, made a statement on Friday in front of a magistrate in Delhi’s Tis Hazari court against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s assistant, Bibhav Kumar, who is accused of assaulting him. Kumar is named as an accused in a formal complaint (FIR) that the Delhi Police has already filed in the case.
When Maliwal went to the Civil Lines police station in the nation’s capital on Monday morning, she claimed that a member of Kejriwal’s staff beat her at the chief minister’s official residence. Maliwal described the events in detail in her complaint, stating that she went to the Chief Minister’s residence after Bibhav and Kejriwal failed to respond to her regarding some job.
The Rajya Sabha MP, Ms Maliwal, has detailed in great detail the abuse and assault she endured at the Delhi CM’s home in her formal complaint.
Around nine in the morning on May 13, 2024. I went to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s home at 6 Flagstaff Raod, Civil Lines, Delhi. I contacted CM’s PS Bibhav Kumar after arriving at the camp office, but I was unable to get through. I then used WhatsApp to send a message to his telephone number. Still, there was no reply. I then entered the residential area through the CM house’s main door, as I have done every year since Bibhav Kumar hasn’t been there, according to the FIR.
When Swati arrived at the living area, she told the employees that she was there to meet the CM. According to the FIR, I was advised to wait in the drawing room, and she was told he was in the house.
I entered the drawing-room, took a seat on the couch, and bided my time until the CM arrived. I was instructed to wait when a staff member arrived and informed me that CM would be meeting me. Abruptly, CM’s PS, Bibhav Kumar, stormed into the room. Without any provocation, he began to yell at me and even began to abuse me. The FIR that Swati filed went on to say, “I was shocked by this sudden misbehaviour and reacted by telling him to stop talking to me like this and to call the CM.”
Maliwal described the attack by Bibhav Kumar as follows: “He started slapping me with his full force without any provocation whatsoever on my side.” I kept screaming as he smacked me at least seven or eight times. I was so startled and numb that I kept crying for rescue. I pushed him away with my legs to defend myself. He suddenly attacked me, yanked me violently, and purposefully pulled my top up. My shirt blew up when the buttons opened. I struck my head on the centre table and fell to the ground.
According to Swati, Kumar lunged at her and continued to kick her in the chest, stomach, and pelvic.
“I cried out for assistance nonstop, but nobody answered. Bibhav Kumar did not back down after that, attacking me with several leg kicks to my pelvis, stomach, and chest. I told him to stop because I was in so much pain. He was still hitting me even though my shirt was about to come off. I kept telling him that I was having my period and that I was in excruciating pain, so please let go of me. But he continued to beat me violently,” Maliwal claimed in the FIR.
According to Swati, Kumar allegedly threatened to bury her in the CM’s house and beat her until she was completely blind.
He then left the room after realising that he had dialled the 112 hotline. The guards stationed at the main gate of the CM camp offices once more accompanied Bibhav on his return. At Bibhav’s request, they arrived and requested that I leave. I persisted in informing them that I had been severely beaten and asked them to assess my condition before waiting for the PCR police to arrive. But they asked me to leave the property,” Maliwal claimed in the police report.
Maliwal described how severely traumatised she was by the attack, saying, “I was escorted outside the CM’s house, and I sat on the floor outside his house for a short while because I was in a lot of agony. When the PCR police arrived, I was so stunned that I just walked out of the area and towards my old house in Civil Lines. Even though I was crying, I made it to my previous home. After a while of sitting on the ground, I asked to be called an auto by several police officers who had escorted me from the CM home. I was in excruciating pain, traumatised, and broken, so I sat in it and started walking towards my house.
“For some reason, I got the courage to tell the car to go back, and I went to PS Civil Lines to report the issue. When I got there, I broke down in tears and told the SHO about what had happened. I was experiencing excruciating agony and excruciating cramps. On my mobile, I also started getting a lot of calls from the media. I left the police station without submitting a written report because I was too traumatised, and in too much agony, and I didn’t want to make the incident political. Maliwal stated in the FIR, “My head was splitting in pain, and my arms, legs, and abdomen were aching terribly due to the assault.”
