Despite criticism for his alleged role in the Porsche disaster, the NCP party has reaffirmed Sunil Tingre’s candidature from Vadgaon Sheri, Maharashtra.
Siddique, the son of the late NCP politician Baba Siddique, will run from the Vandre East assembly constituency. Malik, the daughter of NCP politician Nawab Malik, is expected to run from the Anushakti Nagar seat.
Baba Siddique left Congress in February and joined the NCP. His son was widely expected to follow in his father’s political footsteps. Zeeshan was accused of cross-voting in the July 12 legislative council elections. Ajit Pawar, the NCP’s deputy chief minister and leader, organised the “Jan Sanman Yatra” in the Vandre East constituency in August. That following month, Congress banished him for six years. On Friday, Zeeshan officially joined the NCP.
On October 12, three attackers on motorcycles attacked Baba Siddique in Bandra, killing him.
Her father, Nawab Malik, who had twice served as Anushakti Nagar’s representative, had asked the party leadership to nominate Sana Malik for the position. Malik himself intends to run against Samajwadi Party leader Abu Asim Azmi from the Mankhurd-Shivaji Nagar constituency. Since the NCP has refused to nominate him as its official candidate due to opposition from their ruling ally, the BJP, he is anticipated to run as an independent.
Despite criticism for his suspected involvement in the two-death Porsche crash, the party has reaffirmed Sunil Tingre’s candidature from the Vadgaon Sheri assembly constituency. Sanjaykaka Patil, a two-term BJP MP who recently defected to the NCP, has also been given a ticket from the Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal assembly constituency. His opponent will be Rohit Patil, the son of former state home minister RR Patil and an NCP (SP) candidate.
