Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, declared on Friday that he would construct homes for the slum dwellers, days after Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Jangpura and former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia assured that jhuggi clusters in the national capital could not be removed, referring to it as ‘Kejriwal’s pledge’.
Sisodia had accused the BJP of being the greatest threat to the slum inhabitants of Delhi. Sisodia stated during a roadshow in his assembly constituency, “The people of Jangpura are showing me a great deal of love and support.” Today is a significant day for me. The BJP is responsible for a variety of issues, including gang conflicts, chain-snatching, poor law and order, and rapes. The BJP has been unable to maintain law and order in this region; therefore, why should we provide them with education and healthcare? The BJP is currently the greatest threat to jhuggis in Delhi. All jhuggis will be demolished if they are elected to power. We are the sole individuals who lie down in front of bulldozers to prevent such actions.
Manish Sisodia also pledged that jhuggis (slums) would remain in place until Arvind Kejriwal assumed office.
Kejriwal has recently expressed his desire for housing for all.
The AAP supremo claimed that he had written a letter to Prime Minister Modi, requesting that he provide land to the Delhi government for the construction of houses for sanitation workers employed in the NDMC and MCD areas, just a few days after Sisodia stated that colonies will persist until Arvind Kejriwal is in office.
“I would like to bring to your attention a critical matter that pertains to the sanitation workers who are employed in the NDMC and MCD regions.” The sanitation system of our city is anchored by these employees. They reside in government-provided accommodations during their service. Nevertheless, they are obligated to vacate these residences upon their retirement. During a press conference, Kejriwal stated, “They are unable to purchase their own homes or afford the high rents in Delhi, leaving them and their families in a precarious situation.”
He further stated, “I am requesting that the central government provide land to sanitation workers at concessional rates, as land-related matters in Delhi are under the jurisdiction of the central government.” The Delhi government has the option to construct housing on this land for the labourers, and they can remit the cost of these homes to the government in convenient instalments.
Kejriwal, who is currently on bail following his involvement in a multi-crore Delhi Liquor Excise Policy scandal, had previously written to the Prime Minister to request a subsidy in the fare for students using the Delhi metro. Kejriwal’s campaign appears to be solely focused on requesting an increasing number of items from the Centre government in anticipation of the Delhi elections.
