The Maharashtra cabinet announced on Wednesday in the interest of the farmers. The cabinet said that unseasonal rains would be considered a natural calamity in the state. The Chief Minister’s Office said that declaring unseasonal rains as a natural calamity would benefit those farmers whose crops got damaged due to rains.
New sand policy approved
After the weekly cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar said that farmers will get benefits only if there is continuous rain of 10 mm for at least five days and there is more than a 33 percent loss. The cabinet has decided to approve a new sand policy, scrapping sand auction. After the decision, sand will be available at affordable prices. Apart from this, the cabinet has also approved the 43.8 km rail route of the second phase of Nagpur Metro.
It has been decided in the meeting that a project will be started to generate electricity from waste at Deonar dumping ground in Mumbai. Last month unseasonal rains and hailstorms in Maharashtra ruined the crops of many farmers. The opposition also demanded that the state government give relief to the farmers.
