The newly launched semi-high speed Vande Bharat Express train is currently being driven by Surekha Yadav, Asia’s first female loco pilot, according to Central Railways. She accomplished the feat on Monday while driving the semi-high-speed train between Solapur station and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal (CSMT).

In 1988, Surekha Yadav became the country’s first female train driver. Yadav, who is from Satara in western Maharashtra, has so far received several honors at the state and national levels for her accomplishments.
