On Saturday, the Shiv Sena (UBT) said that the opposition’s unity will not be harmed by the Nationalist Congress Party president Sharad Pawar’s objection to the creation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to look into claims against the Adani group.
Sanjay Raut, a Rajya Sabha member for the Shiv Sena (UBT), stated in a news conference that Pawar had not given a clean bill of health but had instead offered his opinions on possible investigative strategies.
Pawar defended the Adani Group in an interview with NDTV and criticised the spin put on Hindenburg Research’s analysis of the company.
The opposition is steadfast in its demand for a JPC investigation, Raut noted.
According to Raut, a significant assistant to former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, “Be it (West Bengal chief minister) Mamata Banerjee or NCP, there might be differing perspectives regarding Adani, but it would not cause fissures in (opposition) unity in Maharashtra or the country.”
Pawar had said earlier in the day that he preferred a Supreme Court committee to look into the charges against the Adani company since the governing party would control the JPC based on its majority in Parliament, casting doubt on such an investigation.
“I’m not totally against the JPC…
JPCs have existed, and I have served as chairman of a few of them. The JPC will be elected using the majority method (in Parliament). I believe the Supreme Court committee is more beneficial and efficient than a JPC “said Pawar.
In response to allegations of stock manipulation and accounting fraud made by the US company Hindenburg Research against the companies owned by billionaire Gautam Adani, the Congress, headed by Rahul Gandhi, and others have been outspoken in their criticism of the Narendra Modi administration.
These accusations have been refuted by the Adani group, which also asserts that it abides by all laws and regulations in effect in the nation.
Raut also said that the Hindenburg Research study had provided some clarity on the usage of State Bank of India and Life Insurance funds to assist “friends of the governing Bharatiya Janata Party.”
