Officials said on Friday that Devender Singh aka Bunty, an infamous thief who is accused of being involved in almost 500 theft incidents nationwide and served as the inspiration for a Bollywood film, has been apprehended by the Delhi Police.
“Super thief” Singh, 53, was apprehended in Uttar Pradesh in connection with two recent robberies that took place in the capital, according to the reports.
Since he was 14 years old, Singh has been stealing. They said that he had previously been engaged in more than 250 theft cases in Delhi alone.
Singh rose to stardom after appearing on the hit reality competition “Big Boss” in 2010. However, he was kicked from the program for acting inappropriately with the presenter Salman Khan. According to authorities, he served as inspiration for the Bollywood film “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!”
According to police, the arrest came after a complaint from a GK-II resident about the theft of three pricey mobile phones, a handbag, two computers, a pair of designer shoes, a wristwatch, and a Baleno automobile on the night of April 12 and 13 was filed.
Another GK-II homeowner also reported a second theft that day, they said.
A middle-aged suspect wearing a cap was engaged in both occurrences, according to CCTV video of the vicinity and the incident site, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Chandhan Choudhary.
According to the official, “the crew first looked at the suspect’s CCTV video and traced the stolen car’s path, which indicated that it was traveling towards Noida through Alaknanda in CR Park.” According to the police, the video also allowed them to determine the car’s registration number.
“Police squads from CR Park followed the video over the course of the inquiry and located the automobile as far as Kalindi Kunj. After one of the stolen mobile phones was discovered to be turned on, the team was able to pinpoint its position close to Agra. The group headed straight towards the place, which was around 150 kilometers away, she claimed.
The stolen cell phone’s fastag was under constant observation. According to investigators, fastag deductions at several toll booths were seen.
The squad found the stolen vehicle on a route close to Etawah, Uttar Pradesh. Afterwards, the crew was able to stop the automobile at a toll booth in Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh, but the suspect attempted to flee. She said, “But the car’s glass pane was shattered, and the accused was found.”
Three mobile phones, two computers, five LED Televisions with set top boxes, an iron, a printer, as well as additional ID cards and the complainants’ pocketbook were among the stolen things found in the vehicle, according to the police.
According to the DCP, the accused was detained and the case’s assets were taken.
