The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee claims that a historical location connected to Guru Nanak Dev in Mechuka has been transformed into a Buddhist temple, and the National Commission for Minorities has requested a thorough report on this claim from the chief secretary of Arunachal Pradesh. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president, Sardar Harjinder Singh Dhami, complained to the commission about the “conversion of the historical site associated with Guru Nanak Dev in Mechuka, Arunachal Pradesh into a Buddhist temple” in a statement released on Monday.
The commission sent a letter to the chief secretary of Arunachal Pradesh on April 4, 2023, requesting a detailed report in the matter for the commission’s consideration because such incidents “hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community and create a feeling of discrimination among them,” according to the statement. A individual entered Gurudwara Sahib in Morinda, Punjab, and “physically assaulted the priest/granthi performing the Akhand Path,” according to a different statement from the minority panel.
Additionally, he disregarded Sri Guru Granth Sahib. However, in this instance, the culprit was located, and possible legal action was taken. According to the statement, sectarian violence in Punjab has a long history and might have been stopped if the offender had been punished by the appropriate court and a thorough investigation had been carried out in each instance. The National Commission for Minorities (NCM) has submitted a letter to the chief secretary of Punjab asking a record of all incidents of sacrilege in Punjab over the last 45 years in order to evaluate why this is occurring and is not being stopped, according to the statement. The NCM also exhorted people to preserve community harmony and peace.
