As part of their public apologies on Tuesday, Tottenham’s players pledged to pay supporters back for the price of their match tickets from Sunday’s 6-1 thrashing at Newcastle.
when less than a month in charge, interim manager Cristian Stellini lost his job when Spurs fell down 5-0 inside just 21 minutes at St James’ Park.
“As a team, we can relate to your annoyance and rage. It wasn’t good enough, the Tottenham team said in a message to the club.
“We realize that under these circumstances, words are insufficient, but trust us when we say that a loss like this stings.
We value your support, both at home and away, and as a result, we would want to pay back supporters for the price of their match tickets from St. James’ Park.
We are aware that nothing about what occurred on Sunday has changed, but we promise to do all in our power to make amends when we take on Manchester United on Thursday night. Your continued support will be much appreciated.
Hugo Lloris, the team’s captain, had previously apologized to the crowd for the “embarrassing” loss in his post-game interview, admitting the players shown a “lack of pride.”
Ryan Mason, a former midfielder for Tottenham, has been appointed caretaker manager for a second time. He previously oversaw the conclusion of the 2020–21 season after Jose Mourinho’s dismissal.
Tottenham now sits in fifth place in the Premier League, but their ambitions of playing in the Champions League next year seem to have been terminated by Sunday’s setback as they fell six points below the top four with six games left and having played more games than the teams immediately above them.
However, finishing in the top six positions should be sufficient to ensure Europa League eligibility.
