On Friday, the Supreme Court rejected a petition asking for a directive to the Maharashtra government ordering the transfer of all Shiv Sena party assets owned by the Eknath Shinde-led faction from the Uddhav Thackeray side. A bench made up of Justice P S Narasimha and Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud questioned the petitioner’s locus and rejected his argument, a lawyer named Ashish Giri.
Who are you?” What is your locus? the bench enquired before responding, “Dismissed.” A petition on the conflict between the Thackeray and Shinde groups has been heard at the highest court, according to Giri. He had said that the Shinde faction should get the party’s assets. Who are you and what type of petition is this? Your plea will not be granted, the bench informed her.
The top court has deferred its decision on a number of cross-petition requests from the Uddhav Thackeray and CM Eknath Shinde camps relating to the political turmoil in Maharashtra on March 16. The Shinde group has been given the bow and arrow emblem by the poll panel, and the case is now in court.
