According to Congress national secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the “40% commission government” in Karnataka, which is run by the Bharatiya Janata Party, is “sad and shameful.”
This was expressed by the Congress politician during a public gathering in Kanakagiri, in the Koppal district of Karnataka.
“The current BJP administration has been in place for three years. Every time there is a new administration, it strives to create a new identity. She continued her rant on the governing BJP, asking, “Isn’t it sad and shameful that Karnataka BJP is known as ‘40% sarkar’?”
“This name was not given by any party, but was given by the contractors who were forced to commit suicide,” she said.
A contractor committed himself in April of last year in the Udupi district after accusing BJP politician Eshwarappa, who was then the state’s minister for panchayat raj and rural development, of corruption. After a state criminal investigation department (CID) investigation, the minister was subsequently found not guilty.
The contractors’ organisation head, D Kempanna, underlined the problem and stated the 40% reduction in August 2022, which gave the corruption accusations against the BJP administration more traction. In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2022, the association also asked him to get involved in the situation.
“For the previous three and a half years, you have struggled and had to pay commission on each job. As a result, we have developed our assurances that will be beneficial to everyone in the state,” she stated.
The head of the Congress urged voters to take prudence while making their choice, noting that they should be more concerned with their children’s and their own futures than with politics. “Due to the corrupt government, everything has become more expensive, including gas cylinders, pulses, oil and petrol.”
“When Arjun was instructed to aim at the fish in Mahabharatha when it was casting a shadow, he focused only on the eye. People in the state should focus on the future like Arjun did. Avoid falling for any traps. Don’t lose sight of your job, focus on your children’s future, and keep it in mind, she said.
Gandhi visited the Kanakagiri temple and made prayers before speaking to the crowd.
She also criticised PM Modi for “counting how many times he has been abused,” alleging that the BJP leaders are unwilling to discuss what they have done for the state’s citizens. She said, “The leaders play on emotions and bring up social concerns, but they never talk about progress.
The BJP refused to respond to HT’s questions.
Gandhi was responding to Modi’s claim that the Congress verbally “abused” him 91 times. In the state that is headed to the polls, the Karnataka Congress on Sunday began a “CryPM campaign” similar to its “PayCM” effort. An picture of Modi’s visage on a QR Code was extensively circulated by Congress members on social media.
On May 10, elections will be conducted in Karnataka. On May 13, the results will be made public.
