Sharad Pawar, president of the Nationalist Congress Party, said on Thursday that the Bharatiya Janata Party and morality are incompatible. He also claimed that the ruling of the Supreme Court regarding the political turmoil in Maharashtra last year would assist the MVA in persuading people of the BJP’s “misuse” of power.
Earlier in the day, the top court found the Maharashtra governor was not justified in calling upon then chief minister Uddhav Thackeray to show majority in the Assembly on June 30 last year but declined to impose status quo ante, stating he did not face the floor test and resigned.
Pawar made the comment when he was questioned for his thoughts regarding the demands of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress that Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde should resign following the SC verdict. The BJP and morality, according to Pawar, are incompatible. What else can I comment?”
The seasoned politician stated, “If the BJP cannot win on its own, their strategy is to split smaller parties and form the government. This is not healthy for democracy.” But he said that the Supreme Court’s ruling may make it “easier for us (MVA) to persuade people how BJP abuses power.
Regarding the SC finding that Thackeray had resigned on his own, Pawar chose not to elaborate. “Let the past be the past. From this point on, Congress, the Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP will collaborate to prepare for the elections. These three entities are partners in the MVA. The previous governor of Maharashtra, who was also removed by the supreme court, was criticized by the NCP leader.
“I had already expressed my opinions about the then-Gov. Bhagat Singh Koshyari,” Pawar said. An institution protected by the constitution is the governor’s office. He was a good illustration of how to treat an institution with contempt. There is no need to speak more since, fortunately, he is not present.
The Supreme Court ruled on Thursday that because Uddhav Thackeray resigned in June of last year without taking the floor test, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government cannot be reinstated. A five-judge constitution bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud found that the then-Speaker’s choice to name Bharat Gogawale of the Shinde faction as the Shiv Sena whip was “illegal” in a unanimous ruling on a group of cases pertaining to the political crisis that resulted in the fall of the three-party MVA government led by Thackeray following a revolt by the Shinde faction.
The court ruled that the then-governor Koshyari lacked justification, based on evidence that was objective, for coming to the conclusion that Thackeray had lost the House’s support.
