According to authorities, a lady was fatally shot for reportedly drinking alcohol on the grounds of a gurdwara in Patiala, Punjab.
The incident happened on Sunday night, according to Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Varun Sharma.
Police said that Parminder Kaur was drinking alcohol close to the “sarovar” (holy water tank) of the Dukhniwarn Sahib gurdwara.
The 32-year-old lady, a resident of Urban Estate Phase I, was shot many times by Nirmaljit Singh, a frequent visitor to the gurdwara.
“Parminder Kaur was drinking alcohol close to Gurdwara Dukhniwarn Sahib’s sarovar. The staff decided to take her to the manager’s office after seeing this. But Nirmaljeet Singh Saini, who was there, shot her in a fit of rage,” Sharma said.
An official statement said, “Saini fired five rounds at the woman with his 32-bore licensed revolver.”
Police added that although Kaur was rushed to a hospital, the doctors there ruled her dead.
According to sources, a guy who was hurt in the event was hospitalized. His health is said to be stable.
Officials stated the suspect, a property trader with no prior criminal history, was detained by police.
