Italy allocated $30 million on Monday to help the jobless and those whose employment may be most at danger from the development of automation and artificial intelligence (AI) upgrade their skills.
The Fondo per la Repubblica Digitale (FRD), established in 2021 by the Rome administration to improve Italians’ digital literacy, claims that 54% of those aged 16 to 74 lack the fundamentals of digital literacy, compared to 46% on average in the European Union.
According to FRD, there will be two ways the money for bettering training will be distributed.
10 million euros of the total will be used to improve the abilities of people whose employment are very susceptible to automation and technological advancement.
The remaining 20 million euros will be used to assist those who are jobless or economically inactive in developing digital skills that will increase their prospects of finding employment, according to FRD.
According to FRD, automation might threaten a variety of occupations in the transport and logistics, office support and administration, manufacturing, services, and retail industries.
