According to PTI, 39 people have died and 143 have been injured in accidents on the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway since its launch in December 2022 until April this year. The State Highway Police stated that “road hypnotism,” or white line fever, was one of the causes of these accidents. The expressway was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11, 2022, covering a distance of 520 km. The total project length is 701 km, with the aim of reducing travel time from Nagpur to Mumbai to seven hours. Between December 12, 2022, and April 30, 2023, there were 358 accidents on the Samruddhi Corridor. The State Highway Police is addressing the issue. In Maharashtra, there were 15,224 deaths in road crashes in 2022, with 57% involving two-wheeler and three-wheeler riders. Pedestrian deaths accounted for 21%, and 43% of accidents occurred on Other District Roads (ODR) in the state. .
