The Ministry of Railways has announced intentions to introduce Vande Metro trains to Mumbai’s local rail network, which is a big milestone. The Railway Ministry has placed an order to buy 238 Vande Metro (suburban) trains as part of the Mumbai Urban Transport Projects 3 and 3A.
The action by the Railway Ministry is an important development for Mumbai’s transportation system, promising better quality and improved commute experiences for the state’s millions of passengers.
In this respect, the purchase of 238 Vande Bharat Metro trains for Mumbai has been authorized by the Railway Board.
Senior Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) officials provided more information, stating that these rakes will be purchased as part of the ambitious Mumbai Urban Transport Project-III (MUTP-III) and 3A (MUTP-3A), which is being overseen by the Maharashtra government and the Railway ministry to increase the capacity of the city’s suburban train network.
These trains would be produced by the technology partner in accordance with the Make in India policies of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade of the Central Government. The MRVC will handle the acquisition, and the maintenance obligations will last for 35 years, the MRVC spokesperson added.
He said that the technology partner would build up two depots for maintenance of the rakes previously authorized under MUTP-III and 3A.
The Vande Bharat Metro, according to Indian Railways, would be a cutting-edge rake that will be used for short distances to cover cities that are around 100 kilometers apart.
