According to the third advance estimates provided by the agricultural ministry on Thursday, India is expected to produce 330.53 million tonnes of food grains between 2022 and 2023, with record production of rice, wheat, maize, soybean, rapeseed, mustard, and sugarcane.
The ministry said that despite a protracted period of unusually heavy rain and hail in April 2023, the production of winter-sown wheat is estimated at 112.74 million tonnes, five million tonnes greater than the output from the previous year.
“The input from states is used to inform the evaluation of crop output. According on input from the states, alternative sources, and other criteria, this assessment will be revised over time, according to a statement from the agricultural ministry.
Both inflation and the expansion of the rural economy are intimately correlated with food production. India’s population relies on agriculture for around 55% of its income.
A record 135.52 million tonnes of rice are expected to be produced in 2022–2023, an increase of six million tonnes from 2021–2022, according to the statistics. Four times a year, the ministry gives preliminary estimates of its food output.
According to the statistics, maize production is predicted to reach 35.91 million tonnes in 2022–23, an increase of 2.18 million tonnes over 2021–22, while total pulse production is predicted to reach 27.5 million tonnes, an increase of around 200,000 tonnes over the production of the previous year.
According to the predictions, the nation would produce a record 40.99 million tonnes of oilseeds from 2022 to 2023, an increase of 3 million tonnes above the output from the prior year.
According to estimates, the production of soybean and “rapeseed and mustard” would be 14.9 million tonnes and 124.94 million tonnes, respectively, up from the output in 2021–2022 by 1.9 million tonnes and 500,000 tonnes.
