In March 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the construction of this 22 km long bridge between Shivadi to Nhavaseva in Mumbai. Rs 17,843 crore has been spent on the construction of the six-lane bridge.
Officials of the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA), the project’s nodal agency, call it an engineering marvel. A senior MMRDA official said that 7500 workers and around 600 engineers are working daily in the MTHL project. At the same time, engineers from 5 countries have also contributed in this. 1.70 lakh metric tonnes of steel bars have been used in the construction of the bridge, which can make 17 Eiffel Towers.
Four times the diameter of the earth i.e. 48 thousand kilometer long prestressing wire and six times (9.75 lakh cubic meters) of concrete used to make the Statue of Liberty. MMRDA commissioner SVR Srinivas says MTHL has been built keeping the future in mind. It will not only benefit Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, but it will also be connected to Mumbai-Pune Expressway, Mumbai-Goa National Highway. Vehicles can run on the bridge from the month of December.
