Khalistani supporters in Canada are not deterring from their antics. Khalistan supporters took out a parade as part of a program. The tableau taken out in this parade depicts the scene of the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Foreign Minister Jaishankar has also condemned the parade of Khalistani supporters in Canada. EAM Dr S Jaishankar speaks on reports of late PM Indira Gandhi’s assassination celebration in Canada; says, “…I think there is a bigger issue involved…Frankly, we are at a loss to understand other than the requirements of vote bank politics why anybody would do this…I think there is a larger underlying issue about the space which is given to separatists, extremists, to people who advocate violence. I think it is not good for relationships, not good for Canada.”
When this controversy escalated, Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Cameron McKay, reacted to it. He said I am appalled by reports of an event in Canada that celebrated the assassination of late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. There is no place in Canada for hate or the glorification of violence. I categorically condemn these activities.
The parade depicting the tableau of Indira Gandhi’s assassination was 5 kilometers long, taken out by Khalistan supporters in Brampton, Canada. A video clip of this tableau went viral on social media and since then people are condemning it. Significantly, the activities of Khalistan supporters have increased in Canada.
Earlier in Australia too, Khalistan supporters had written a controversial comment on the temple, after which there was a lot of controversy. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi raised this issue in talks with his Australian counterpart. Then the Australian PM assured the Indian counterpart to rein in such activities.
