Sanjay Raut, a Rajya Sabha member for the Shiv Sena (UBT), has accused BJP politician Kirit Somaiya of criminal defamation for allegedly tweeting disparaging remarks about him since 2022.
The Rajya Sabha MP requested that the magistrate’s court in suburban Mulund take cognizance of a crime punishable under IPC section 500 (punishment for defamation) against Somaiya in the complaint he/she filed there via attorney Sundeep Singh.
According to the lawsuit, “I noticed that the accused made some defamatory tweets on his Twitter account since the year 2022, which are completely unwarranted statements and amount to defamation against me.” According to Raut, he was “shocked and surprised” by the BJP leader’s comments.
“I, a large number of my followers, and other individuals from his Twitter account observed the remarks. He has made false accusations against me without providing any concrete evidence. He is attempting to harm my reputation in the eyes of society and the general public, according to the lawsuit. In the next days, the court is anticipated to hear the case.
