In the next 12 hours, Cyclone “Biparjoy” is forecast to deteriorate into a “depression,” according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Cyclone “Biparjoy” has previously hit Gujarat’s coastal regions.
At 11:30 p.m. on Friday, IMD reported that the cyclonic storm had deteriorated into a “deep depression” over Southeast Pakistan.
“At 2330 hours IST yesterday, the 16th of June 2023, over Southeast Pakistan bordering Southwest Rajasthan and Kutch, some 100 km northeast of Dholavira, Cyclonic Storm Biparjoy deteriorated into a Deep Depression. The clearing job was done on Friday by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel.
According to IMD sources, the cyclone made landfall on Thursday night around 10 km north of the Jakhau Port in Kutch. It had its origins in the Arabian Sea and had swept over the west coast of India.
After Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall in coastal portions of the state on Thursday evening, six NDRF teams rescued 127 citizens from Rupen Bandar Government Primary School and relocated them to NDH School Dwarka earlier in the day.
According to NDRF, there were 82 men, 27 women, and 15 children among the evacuated residents.
After cyclone “Biparjoy” made landfall in Gujarat, heavy rain was predicted for the state’s following two days. As a precaution in cyclone-prone regions, Western Railways decided to partly or completely suspend the operation of a few additional trains on Friday.
According to reports, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel met earlier today to assess the state’s condition after the landfall of Cyclone Biparjoy at the State Emergency Operations Centre in Gandhinagar.
