Due to severe weather for a period on Sunday, an IndiGo aircraft from Srinagar to Jammu crossed Pakistan’s airspace before safely landing in Amritsar, according to the airline.
According to sources, “IndiGo 6e-2124 entered in Pakistan airspace for a while due to bad weather and the flight was diverted to Amritsar,” a representative said.
According to a spokesperson for the airline, both nations’ relevant authorities were alerted before the IndiGo aircraft reached Pakistani airspace, and Jammu and Lahore ATCs successfully coordinated the flight’s diversion.
According to sources, the aeroplane was scheduled to arrive at Jammu airport but was diverted to Amritsar owing to inclement weather. The jet did, however, safely land in Amritsar after briefly crossing Pakistani territory, according to the authority.
In a related incident from earlier this month, a hazardous weather-related entry by an IndiGo Amritsar-Ahmedabad aircraft into Pakistani airspace.
Due to severe weather, IndiGo aircraft 6E-645, which was travelling from Amritsar to Ahmedabad, was forced to deviate over Atari and enter Pakistani airspace. Amritsar ATC successfully organised the deviation over the phone with Pakistan. The aircraft successfully landed in Ahmedabad after the diversion, the crew remained in constant communication with Pakistan on R/T, according to an official statement from IndiGo.
According to Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), doing so in inclement weather is a “internationally allowed” practise.
According to a senior CAA official, it was “internationally allowed” to fly in poor weather circumstances, therefore it wasn’t uncommon, according to Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper.
