Police said on Tuesday that weapons and ammunition were found in the Imphal East district during the last 24 hours after a search operation in Manipur’s marginal and at-risk districts.
“State Police and Central troops undertook a search operation in the previous 24 hours in both the valley and hill regions’ marginal and susceptible areas. In all, 10 weapons and 239 rounds of ammunition were found in the Imphal East district, according to a statement from the Manipur Police. They said that during the search operation in Serou Mamang Leikai Part, 112 empty cases of various calibres, two live rounds of a 12 bore cannon, 12 empty cartridges of a barrel, and two locally built explosives were found.
The police report that although the situation in the northeastern state remains tight in certain areas, it is generally improving and that there have been nearly no unfavourable incidents during the last 24 hours.
In sensitive regions around the state, security officers are constantly conducting patrols, flag marches, cordons, and search operations.
A search operation was carried out earlier on Monday in the general region of Kairang Awang Leikai, Khomidok, and Heikrumakhong by a team of police and central troops.
Five people were detained during the operation, and three weapons, 21 rounds of ammunition, and two cars were also found, according to police.
Additional seven weapons and 218 rounds of ammunition were found while the operation continued on Tuesday in the Kairang region, according to the police.
