In preparation for the impending assembly elections later this year, which are generally seen as a virtual semifinal before the Lok Sabha elections next year, the Congress has switched into election gear, according to individuals with knowledge of the situation.
According to the individuals stated above, the party has scheduled a meeting for July 1 with both Sachin Pilot and Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan.
A senior Congress leader claimed that the inclusion of Pilot in the planning for the upcoming elections in Rajasthan shows how eager the party brass is to organise itself before the vote and give Pilot, who rebelled against Gehlot in December 2020, a chance to improve the party’s chances.
Pilot is anticipated to play a significant part in campaign management, but according to his supporters, peaceful settlement of the concerns he presented should take precedence. A politician who supported Pilot said, “We campaigned for disbanding of the public service commission, financial assistance for those who suffered from paper leaks during job interviews, and an inquiry into corruption during the previous administration.
Following a meeting between the two leaders and the central leadership last month in Delhi, the party made a show of togetherness by declaring that Gehlot and Pilot will run in the next assembly elections together.
Later this year, elections will be held in Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, four sizable states. The Telangana strategy committee met on Tuesday to go through preparations. A top source with knowledge of the situation said that a potential reorganisation at the party’s Telangana unit’s block and district committees was thoroughly examined.
According to Pawan Khera, the party’s head of media and publicity, a number of prominent figures have also joined the Congress. “Across the nation, change winds are blowing. The outcome was evident in Karnataka, and those winds are now sweeping towards the other assembly, including a crucial state of Telangana, which is holding elections,” he said.
The head of the Telangana Congress unit, Revanth Reddy, said, “We met with Rahul Gandhi and Congress head Mallikarjun Kharge. The BRS and the BJP in Telangana will thereafter be defeated by all of us working together.
In the next two days, meetings are anticipated for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
2018 saw victories for the Congress in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. However, it lost control of Madhya Pradesh in 2020 when Jyotiraditya Scindia, who is now the Union’s minister of civil aviation and steel, left the party with some of his supporters.
