Ajit Pawar, a key leader in the Nationalist Congress Party, met with some MLAs and party leaders on Sunday at his official residence in Mumbai before travelling to the Raj Bhavan with other party leaders. The meeting gains relevance in light of Ajit Pawar’s recent statement that he wanted to work in the party apparatus rather than continue as the Leader of the Opposition.
NCP working president Supriya Sule, party leader Praful Patel, and others were said to have arrived at Ajit Pawar’s house for the meeting, according to news agency ANI. Sharad Pawar, the president of the NCP, who was present in Pune, claimed to be ignorant of the gathering but noted that Ajit Pawar, who serves as the opposition’s leader in the Maharashtra parliament, has the authority to organise a conference of lawmakers.
State party president Jayant Patil was absent from the meeting, which was held in Ajit Pawar’s official mansion, “Devgiri,” but senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal was there. The meeting’s agenda was unknown.
Sharad Pawar, meanwhile, claimed to be uninformed of the meeting in Mumbai when speaking to media in Pune. “Decisions pertaining to the party will be discussed at a meeting of senior leaders on July 6,” he stated. The leader of the NCP added that Ajit Pawar, as the LoP, might convene a meeting of lawmakers.
Ajit Pawar is about to bring about a great rift in NCP and change the political scene in Maharashtra finally.
