Early on Monday, a combined team from the Mumbai Police and National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided four locations in Mumbai and Pune and captured four accused supporters of the Islamic State. Sources claim that central authorities have been monitoring the jailed individuals since early 2021.
Officials informed News18 that during the searches, several incriminating items, including digital gadgets, were taken from the suspects and their homes.
Amir, another inmate, reportedly took the pledge of allegiance from Tabish, who was arrested in Mumbai. Tabish also allegedly contributed pieces to the IS propaganda journal “Voice of Hind.”
Zubair, who was arrested in Pune, was reportedly connected to the already discovered ISIS Shimoga branch.
In connection with a case against the Ghazwa-e-Hind, a radicalized module being operated by suspects headquartered in Pakistan, the NIA conducted searches at five sites on Sunday: two in Patna, one each in Surat (Gujarat) and Bareilly (Uttar Pradesh), one in Darbhanga (Bihar), and one in Patna, Darbhanga, and Darbhanga.
The agency claims that during the searches, incriminating materials were collected, including digital devices such mobile phones and memory cards, SIM cards, and papers.
After Marghoob Ahmad Danish, also known as “Tahir,” was taken into custody on July 14 of last year by the Bihar Police in the Phulwarisharif neighborhood of Patna, the case was opened. Eight days later, the NIA took over the investigation.
Danish was charged on January 6 under many provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Indian Penal Code.
