Abhishek Banerjee, a senior member of the TMC, made fun of the BJP on Monday for working with Ajit Pawar of the NCP, claiming that the saffron party can never be relied upon to combat corruption since all of its efforts are focused on serving political objectives.
On Sunday, Pawar pulled off a surprise coup inside the NCP that resulted to a vertical split. He then allied himself with the Shiv Sena-BJP coalition in power in Maharashtra to take over as deputy chief minister.
“A few days ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused opposition parties of being dishonest and said that his administration will combat corruption.
At a panchayat election rally in this city, Banerjee remarked, “And within a few days, we watched that Ajit Pawar, who has multiple corruption accusations against him and is the subject of ongoing investigations by the CBI and ED, joined the NDA and the Maharashtra cabinet.
The MP for the Trinamool Congress was making reference to Modi’s speech to BJP members last week in Bhopal, during which he launched a scathing assault on the opposition parties, claiming that they can only “guarantee” corruption and implicated them in scandals totaling “at least Rs 20 lakh crore.”
“The BJP has claimed that the NCP is among the most corrupt parties… It now collaborates with the same NCP authorities. The saffron party’s attempts to combat corruption are a charade and are intended to further political goals, he said, therefore it is impossible to trust them.
