Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, said on Saturday that in order to make the nation’s capital the greenest and cleanest city in the world, Delhi’s green cover must be enhanced from its current 23% to 25% in the next years.
Kejriwal said that this year, more than one crore saplings would be planted around the city as he was present at a Van Mahotsav where Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena was the principal guest.27.5 lakh seedlings, he said, had already been planted.
At 23%, Delhi’s green cover, according to Kejriwal, is greater than that of London and New York as well as cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. 5.5 lakh trees were planted at the occasion at the Asola Bhati Mines wildlife reserve.
