Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of Goa, said on Monday that his administration would not permit any further offshore casinos. He was responding to the Assembly’s requests for money from the Home department.
Six casinos in the state operate out of boats on the Mandovi River. Additionally, Sawant denied assertions made by Yuri Alemao, leader of the opposition, that a jetty was being built along the Chapora River to assist the establishment of a casino.
Sawant said that jetties had been constructed to transport passengers and urged the opposition “not to incite panic among the public.”
