In the most recent ICC rankings for ODI bowlers, Australia’s Josh Hazlewood deposed Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj from the top position on Wednesday, knocking the Indian down to third.
Mitchell Starc, another Australian pacer who performed well in the first two One Day Internationals in the three-match series in India, also advanced to equal third place.
Siraj lost his status as the top-ranked bowler as he was pricey in the second ODI, letting up 37 runs in three overs. Siraj had previously returned with outstanding statistics of 3/29 to help India defeat Australia in the first ODI.
During the second ODI in Visakhapatnam, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head primarily targeted the right-arm bowler. Siraj, who has recently seen success in a variety of forms, was named the world’s best bowler in ODIs in January of this year.
Starc took three wickets in Mumbai to help Australia mount a comeback, while his 5-for-53 in the second ODI in Visakhapatnam helped the visitors defeat the home team by ten wickets.
Hazlewood became the all-time best bowler in ODIs despite missing the whole trip of India, which included four Test matches and three ODIs.
Hazlewood is No. 1 in ODIs for the first time, according to the ICC, having held that position since August 2022 and reaching his career-best second place for the first time in June 2017.
Mohammed Shami, who threw a game-winning pitch in Mumbai, also rose five positions to land in 28th place.
KL Rahul climbed three spots to take over the 39th position with to his unbroken 75, which enabled India recover from a shaky start and win the opening ODI by five wickets.
India’s Shubman Gill, who made “minimal improvement,” and Virat Kohli, who stayed fifth and seventh in the ODI rankings for hitters, respectively, while skipper Rohit Sharma climbed one spot to ninth.
With his impressive performance with the bat against Sri Lanka, Kane Williamson of New Zealand rose to the second rank among hitters in Test cricket. The former captain registered scores of 1, 121 not out, and 215 in the two-match series, which the Kiwis won 2-0.
Williamson currently ranks second among players with the most scores over 200, one behind Kohli (seven), thanks to his sixth double digit total in Tests.
Marnus Labuschagne of Australia continues to be the best hitter in Test cricket.
Henry Nicholls, a left-handed batter from New Zealand, moved up 20 positions to rank in 27th after scoring 200 runs in the Wellington Test and collaborating with Williamson on a huge 363-run partnership in the 2,500th game of Test cricket.
Dimuth Karunaratne, the captain of Sri Lanka, is now at position 10.
