Senior Congressman Sachin Pilot travelled to Delhi on Wednesday, defying instructions from his own party, after observing a fast in Jaipur to urge the Ashok Gehlot administration to take action regarding corruption allegations brought against the former Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government in Rajasthan.
There was anticipation that he may see Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, the party’s AICC representative for Rajasthan, and other top figures, but sources close to Pilot said that no meetings were scheduled.
The party leadership in Delhi responded angrily to Pilot’s day-long fast on Tuesday from 11 am to 4 pm after having earlier forewarned that the action would be seen as “anti-party.”
Pilot stated that his fast would hasten the campaign against corruption and financial irregularities as he departed the Jaipur location where he had kept his fast. Pilot said that Rahul Gandhi, the Congress, and other opposition parties had come together on this issue.
Additionally, the former deputy chief minister said that Gehlot had written to thrice last year on this matter without receiving a response.
“We had promised the populace that the past BJP administration would be held accountable for its misdeeds. Pilot stated, “I expected the Congress government to act, but it hasn’t in much for four years.
According to party insiders, as cited by NDTV, Pilot’s meeting with the party’s central leadership in Delhi has not yet been set.
Gehlot has scheduled a news conference for today.
When the party prevailed in the state assembly elections in 2018, Gehlot and Pilot were both interested in the position of chief minister. However, Gehlot was chosen by the senior brass of the Congress for the position a third time.
Pilot and a group of Congress MLAs publicly revolted against Gehlot in July 2020 and demanded that the state’s governor be replaced. After that, Pilot lost his positions as Pradesh Congress Committee president and deputy chief minister.
