In the IPL 2023, the Mumbai Indians (MI) had a difficult day as they fell to the defending champion Gujarat Titans (GT) by a score of 55 runs at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. It was a squandered chance for what may have been one of the greatest run-chases in IPL history when MI couldn’t rise to the occasion to successfully chase down the 208-run goal. Runs were few and wickets kept falling, which sparked an internet memefest as disgruntled fans vented their annoyance. But in the middle of all the sorrow, a dedicated supporter who had been painted blue instantly became a meme when his mournful expression was captured on video, giving internet trolls plenty of fodder to make light of MI’s woes.
The Rohit Sharma-led team fell short of expectations, leaving one fan, who had gone to great efforts to demonstrate his support for the team by painting himself fully blue, dissatisfied. Unfortunately, Michigan’s second inning was marred by setbacks, and the fan’s efforts seemed to have been in useless since he was unable to support his side. After spending hours preparing himself to express his love for MI, it was a terrible time for him.
The fan’s blue avatar, however, had other intentions for the internet, and before long, he was the focus of a hilarious meme frenzy that swept Twitter!
The MI captain requested that Hardik Pandya’s squad bat first in the game, and they produced a strong score of 207/6. GT was able to pull off this feat thanks in part to Shubman Gill’s half-century and bold contributions in the forties from David Miller and Abhinav Manohar. Mumbai’s reaction, however, fell short since the second innings’ scoring pace was controlled and their pursuit never got off the ground. With a dominating win that placed them on par with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the top of the points standings, GT continued to rule from the beginning to the end.
Mumbai’s problems were made worse by early stadium exits made by disappointed spectators before the game had even finished.
