AhmedNagar district of Maharashtra will now be known as Ahilyabai Holkar Nagar. CM Eknath Shinde announced to change the name of the district on Wednesday. Ahilyabai Holkar’s birth anniversary is on Wednesday (May 31). On this occasion, CM Shinde announced to change the name of the district. The demand to change the name of the district was being made continuously. CM Shinde reached the birth place of Ahilyabai on Wednesday. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis was also present with him. Recently Aurangabad was renamed as ‘Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’ and Osmanabad as ‘Dharashiv’.
Indore airport has been named ‘Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport’, two universities in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra (Solapur) have been named after her. Many roads, buildings, public places have been named in his memory.
Ahilyadevi Holkar (1725–1795) was born in a Marathi family in Chaundi village in Ahmednagar district and later became the queen of the Malwa kingdom (from 1767 until her death). Since childhood, he had the urge to help people. She was married to Khanderao at a tender age. He was married in 1733.
In 1754, Khanderao received Veergati during the war. Later Ahilyadevi was handed over the command of the Holkar Empire. She is considered one of the best queens in the history of India. The credit goes to Ahilya Bai Holkar for building many Dharamshalas in different parts of the country. on 13 August 1795 Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar passed away.
