Air India has struck a comprehensive financial deal for its new fleet of aircraft in a short period. Company’s CEO Campbell Wilson has given this information. Air India made a historic announcement on February 14 to buy 470 aircraft. Of these, 250 aircraft are to be purchased from Airbus and 220 aircraft from Boeing. Apart from this, there is also an option to buy an additional 370 aircraft from the two aircraft manufacturers. Air India has ordered new aircraft for the first time in more than 17 years. The ownership of Air India was taken over by the Tata Group from the government in January last year.
The company issued this order
Wilson said in a weekly message to airline employees on Friday that he wanted to “compliment the commercial, strategic procurement, finance, revenue and legal teams for completing the massive financing deal related to the new fleet in a remarkably short time. This is another historic achievement for the new Air India.” However, further details regarding this financing deal have not been disclosed yet. Wilson told last month that huge investments were being made in the airline. He had said that the Tata group has invested $70 billion in 470 aircraft.
Preparation for the recruitment of 5100 pilots, crew personnel
On one hand, Air India is giving VRS to old employees. On the other hand, it is also preparing for recruitment in large numbers. Tata Group airline Air India is expanding its fleet and operations and because of this, the company will recruit 4,200 cabin crew and 900 pilots this year. The airline had placed orders for 470 aircraft from Boeing and Airbus a few days ago. There are also 70 big aircraft in these. Tata Group acquired Air India in January 2022.
