Anurag Singh Thakur, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, inaugurated the freshly constructed 6-lane 200-meter synthetic athletic track on Sunday at the Sports Authority of India High Altitude Training Center in Shilaroo, Himachal Pradesh.
This 8,000-foot-high track is the nation’s first to be constructed. The high-altitude Hockey Synthetic Track is also housed at the SAI center in Shilaroo.
This cutting-edge track is a substantial addition to the complex and is expected to improve the athletic environment in the area and throughout the country. Athletes will be able to adapt to high-altitude environments and improve their endurance, stamina, and speed of recovery following demanding training sessions. At the ceremony, Shri Thakur said, “Our administration is dedicated to making sports accessible and nurturing a climate for athletes to flourish in a more competitive setting.
There are existing dorms at the SAI High Altitude Training Center in Shilaroo that can house 50 female athletes and 100 male athletes. It features 13 Staff Quarters, a guest house, an astroturf hockey field, and two multipurpose rooms. The Synthetic Athletics tracks have also been launched.
An athlete’s body will produce more red blood cells and have more endurance thanks to high altitude training, providing them an advantage in contests.
