On the Tirupati-Secunderabad Vande Bharat Express on Wednesday evening, an unauthorized passenger’s smoking activities inside a restroom set off a false fire alert, a smoke-like extinguisher, and temporarily stopped the train, according to a railway official.
According to the official, the incident took place in carriage C-13 on Train No. 20702 after crossing Gudur.
“An unauthorized traveler from Tirupati boarded the train and barricaded himself in carriage C-13’s restroom… According to a South Central Railway (SCR) Zone officer from the Vijayawada Division, the passenger smoked inside the restroom, which caused the aerosol fire extinguisher to automatically activate.
The aerosol fire extinguisher began to release powder-like smoke to put out the flame after the false alert, which caused the people in that coach to panic.
They then sent the information to the railway’s guard through an emergency phone link inside the carriage, causing the train to be stopped at Manubolu at approximately five o’clock in the afternoon.
The railroad police raced to the coach with a fire extinguisher, breaking the toilet’s glass to rescue the passenger who was smoking inside it since they believed the false alert to be a fire mishap.
The official said, “Railway police detained him at Nellore for appropriate action in accordance with the Railway Act,” and the train thereafter continued on its route.
