Tuesday, an Army dog lost its life while attempting to rescue its handler during a battle with terrorists that was still going on in the Rajouri area of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to PTI, a six-year-old female Labrador from the 21 Army Dog Unit perished in the confrontation while defending its handler.
In the course of an ongoing search operation in a remote hamlet in the Rajouri area, one suspected Pakistani terrorist and an Army soldier were also killed in a firefight.
According to the report, the gunfire exchange left three security men hurt.
According to a report citing Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police for the Jammu Zone, a confrontation between security personnel and militants took place in Narla village.
“One terrorist and an Army soldier were killed while three security personnel – two Army jawans and one special police officer – were injured in the gunfight,” the aforementioned official was reported as saying.
After seeing two people moving suspiciously, the security forces began a search and cordon operation in the wooded Patrada region on Monday evening and fired a few shots, according to the report citing authorities.
However, they said that both suspects were able to flee the area by using the darkness and dense undergrowth. They left behind a knapsack, some clothing, and other items, which the search teams were able to find, according to the report.
According to the story, which cited authorities, the cordon and search operation was expanded to adjacent regions, including Bambel and Narla, to find the terrorists.
The report further said that a search operation was being conducted nearby.
According to a source citing a Defense official, a courageous Army dog from the 21 Army Dog Unit, a six-year-old female Labrador, also died in the confrontation while defending its owner.

This year, there have been multiple engagements in the border towns of Rajouri and Poonch that have resulted in the deaths of roughly 26 militants and 10 security officers.
According to police, the majority of the terrorists were killed while trying to cross the border into Indian territory.
