There was a long-standing dispute regarding the Asia Cup 2023 to be held in the ODI format in the year 2023. In fact, the tournament was hosted by Pakistan and BCCI Secretary Jai Shah refused the Indian team to go to Pakistan. After that Pakistan had introduced a hybrid model, a long dispute was going on over that too. But now it has come to an end. According to the report on Saturday, the Asian Cricket Council has accepted Pakistan’s hybrid model for the Asia Cup 2023. According to this, the matches of this tournament will be held in Pakistan.
In fact, after the hybrid model was introduced by Pakistan, Najam Sethi offered that the first four non-Indian matches be held in Pakistan. Now it has been accepted by the ACC headed by Jai Shah. Apart from these four matches, it has been decided to organize the Asia Cup in Galle and Pallekele in Sri Lanka. That is, after this long-standing dispute, now the picture seems to be clear. Not only this, the controversy over the World Cup 2023 that started after this also seems to have come to an end.
When will the official decision come?
In the report released regarding the Asia Cup, it has been told that ACC can make its official announcement on this on Tuesday, 13 June. Also, the picture has become clear even after the Pakistan team came here for the ODI World Cup to be held in India this year. Oman Cricket Board chief and ACC member Pankaj Khimji supported Pakistan’s hybrid model despite opposition from the Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan boards.
This match will be played in Lahore!
Now the picture of getting Pakistan vs Nepal, Bangladesh vs Afghanistan, Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh matches in Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is clearly visible. Apart from this, two matches between India and Pakistan and the rest of the Super Four matches will be held in Galle or Pallekele in Sri Lanka. Regarding this, a board member of ACC said that the Asia Cup will be held in September 2023.
Pakistan ready for world cup also
After the settlement of the dispute over the Asia Cup, it has come to the fore that Pakistan is ready for the World Cup as well. ICC CEO Geoff Allardice and chairman Greg Barclay met Pakistan Cricket Board acting chairman Najam Sethi in Karachi regarding this. It was made clear in that meeting that after the four matches of the Asia Cup will be held in Pakistan, no condition will be imposed for the World Cup by the Pakistani team. This clearly means that the Pakistan team will now be seen playing against the World Cup 2023 in Ahmedabad. While the remaining matches of Pakistan can be held in Chennai and Hyderabad. The full schedule of the World Cup is also likely to come by next week.
