On Monday, Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, complimented the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the G20 group for coming to a “groundbreaking” agreement on the importance of digital public infrastructure as a key catalyst for the Sustainable Development Goals.
Bill Gates said in a blog post on the platform X, previously known as Twitter, that “The #G20 reached a groundbreaking consensus on the role of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPIs) as a critical accelerator of the Sustainable Development Goals.”
“I have high hopes for DPI’s ability to promote a society that is safer, healthier, and more just. I salute Prime Minister @narendramodi,” he added. DPIs are technologies that allow for interoperable, open, and inclusive platforms as well as essential, societal-wide, public, and commercial services that are essential in advancing this inclusive digital revolution. It refers to the platforms or building blocks that let governments provide vital services to their inhabitants, empower individuals, and enhance lives via digital inclusion. Examples include digital identification, financial infrastructure, and data sharing solutions.
The G20 leaders earlier committed themselves to speeding progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by acting together to ensure that the G20 2023 Action Plan to Accelerate Progress on the SDGs, including its High-Level Principles, is enacted effectively and on schedule.
The New Delhi Declaration, which the G20 leaders approved, focuses on supporting robust, sustainable, balanced, and inclusive development and aspires to accelerate progress on them (SDGs), said External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on Saturday, underscoring the importance of SDGs.
