On the first day of his two-day visit to the state, BJP President J P Nadda called on Chief Minister Eknath Shinde here on Wednesday.
Nadda and Shinde met at “Varsha,” the chief minister’s official house in southern Mumbai.
Nadda’s visit was described by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) as a courtesy call.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling last week that it cannot restore the former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray since he opted to quit without being put to a floor test, the meeting between the two leaders gains importance.
The meeting between Nadda and Shinde was attended by the BJP state unit president Chandrashekhar Bawankule, the state unit in-charge C T Ravi, the party’s Mumbai unit leader Ashish Shelar, and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) dispensation, which was overthrown by the Shinde-led administration, will reach its one-year anniversary next month. Shinde formerly served as a cabinet minister in the MVA administration under Uddhav Thackeray.
Shinde and 39 other MLAs rebelled against the Shiv Sena’s leadership in June 2022, causing the party to split. Later on, Shinde was elected CM with the help of the BJP.
This year, local elections are anticipated in certain areas of Maharashtra, including the state capital Mumbai.
