Opposition Unity Questioned as Maha Vikas Aghadi Struggles with Internal Disputes
The ongoing disagreements within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) have presented an opportunity for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to raise doubts about the opposition’s unity. In a recent statement on Monday, the BJP suggested that the MVA’s internal clashes over seat-sharing for the upcoming elections could lead to its dissolution.
The MVA, which was originally formed to consolidate its power, is now experiencing turbulence due to its loss of authority. The alliance partners are currently engaged in a heated debate over who holds seniority within the alliance for the Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, and BMC elections. “Their arguments clearly indicate that the MVA is moving closer towards dissolution,” remarked Keshav Upadhye, the chief spokesperson of the BJP in the state.
Upadhye shared these remarks during a press conference held at the party’s state office. The alliance between the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Uddhav Thackeray was primarily established with the goal of obtaining power. “However, now that they have lost power, their differences have come to the forefront. The NCP has already declared itself as the senior partner in the alliance.”
Upadhye also criticized Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of a party that lacks official party status, for unilaterally claiming 19 Lok Sabha seats without considering electoral support. He urged Sanjay Raut to clarify the basis on which his party seeks 19 seats, including one in Dadra Nagar Haveli.
