Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar police have recorded the statements of more than 20 people in connection with the incident of the woman’s dead body found in a flat in Maharashtra’s Thane district. Some pieces of the woman’s body were allegedly boiled in a pressure cooker.
The women Saraswati Vaidya and Manoj Sane (56) lived in ‘live-in’. Sane has been arrested for allegedly killing Saraswati and disposing of her body after dismembering it. The incident is of Mira Road in Thane district, where these people lived in a rented flat on the seventh floor of an apartment. Sane has been sent to police custody till June 16 by a court. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-I) Jayant Bajbale said, “Evidence is being collected in the case. So far statements of 20 people have been recorded. DNA samples of Saraswati and her close relatives have been taken for matching.”
According to officials, the police on Monday handed over the mortal remains to Saraswati’s sisters so that she could be cremated. The records of the conversation (chat and call) between the accused and the woman are also being scrutinized. An official said that Sane is suspected of killing Saraswati by giving her insecticide. He had allegedly bought the pesticide from a shop in the western suburb of Borivali. It is suspected that the murder took place on June 4.
However, it came to light on June 7, when residents of Akashdeep building on Mira Road (East) complained of foul smell coming from Saraswati’s flat and acting on that basis, the police entered the flat by breaking open the door. Sane, who worked at a ration shop, claimed that Saraswati had committed suicide by consuming poison and tried to dispose of her body by dismembering it. The accused allegedly told the police that he was infected with HIV and had no physical relationship with Saraswati. He has also claimed that Saraswati was his wife and both were not living in a ‘live-in’ relationship.
