In connection with the threat calls made to the office of Union minister Nitin Gadkari on two separate occasions, Nagpur Police on Tuesday arrested a murder case prisoner from a jail in Belagavi, Karnataka, an official said. According to a Nagpur police official, the prisoner, named as Jayesh Pujari alias Jayesh Kantha, was taken into custody from the Hindalga jail and flown to Nagpur in the morning. Pujari is the subject of two cases at the city’s Dhantoli police station.
Pujari will be brought before a local court in the afternoon, the officer said, adding that he would be questioned to determine his motivation for making the threatening calls (to the Union minister). On January 14, a guy going by the name of Jayesh Pujari called Gadkari’s public relations department in Nagpur city and demanded Rs 100 crore in threatening tones. The caller identified himself as a Dawood Ibrahim gang member.
The same individual (Pujari) called Gadkari’s office once again on March 21 and threatened to hurt him if Rs 10 crore was not paid, according to the police. Security was heightened at the Nagpur MP’s home and workplace as a result of the calls. In a murder case, Pujari received a death penalty verdict. He had denied making the threatening calls.
